If you are moving into a newly-constructed home—It is the responsibility of your builder to issue an ENERGY STAR label and certificate for your home. Contact your builder to receive proper documentation.
If you are moving into a previously-occupied ENERGY STAR home—Ask the previous homeowner (or their real estate professional) for a copy of the ENERGY STAR certificate that was issued when they purchased the home. This documentation may be reviewed as part of the home’s valuation and should be retained indefinitely after moving in.
All ENERGY STAR homes should have an ENERGY STAR label affixed to the breaker box with the Rater who completed the inspections name on it. The Rater should be able to provide copies of their inspection reports completed for the home.
