The list of ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators shows a column with the heading ?adjusted volume.? What does that term mean? Follow

Adjusted volume is a figure accounting for the fact that freezers require more energy than refrigerators per unit of actual volume, because they are colder. If two refrigerator-freezers have the same total volume, but different size freezers, they will use different amounts of energy. Both the federal energy efficiency standards and ENERGY STAR criteria are based on adjusted volumes. Specifically, the adjusted volume is expressed in cubic feet and is calculated as AV = (Fresh Volume) + 1.63 x (Freezer Volume).
