No. Per Directive 2011-06, all unique models on EPA’s lists of ENERGY STAR certified products that are currently available for sale in the U.S. are candidates for verification testing regardless of certification date. Once a certification body (CB) is ready to make product selections, the CB should submit to EPA a summary of unique product family counts by product category spanning all models certified by that CB which are currently available in the U.S. market for Agency selections including products certified within the last twelve months. A CB will begin verification testing for a specific product category when at least one of the following criteria is met:
- When a CB has certified 10 unique products families to the specification version currently in effect, or;
- One year from the date of the first certification to the specification version currently in effect, whichever comes first.
Once the CB determines that verification testing will begin for that product category, all models included on the list of certified products, regardless of certification date, are candidates for verification testing and should be included in the list of eligible models provided to EPA for Agency selections.
