The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has general laboratory test reporting requirements for EPA-recognized laboratories as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure for Certification of Products to ENERGY STAR Specifications In Addition, the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) has developed test templates for DOE-initiated testing. EPA-recognized laboratories are not required to use these templates for ENERGY STAR qualification testing, but are permitted to use them, so as long as the laboratories also report all the required fields for EPA. Third-party laboratories conducting verification testing contracted by DOE are required to use these templates
