Is there a tax credit for sliding glass patio doors? Follow

Yes, sliding glass patio doors and French doors can qualify for a tax credit.

2009 & 2010

How much:

10% of the cost (not including installation), up to $500

30% of the cost (not including installation costs), up to $1,500

Timing:

Must be installed in your "principal residence" between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2016.

Must be installed in your "principal residence" between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.

Must be ENERGY STAR qualified.

Beginning June 1, 2009, to qualify for the tax credit, sliding glass doors must have a U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) less than or equal to 0.30. This is a super efficient door, and most ENERGY STAR doors will not qualify.

ENERGY STAR qualified sliding glass doors purchased* from January 1 - May 31, 2009 qualify for the tax credit. *Note this is an exception to the rule: most of the tax credits are eligible on the date they are"placed in service"which means when they are installed.

How to apply:

File Tax Form 5695 with your tax return. Save your receipts and the Manufacturer's Certification Statement for your taxes.
